Once again Rutland County Audubon will have a display at the Forestry Building at the Vermont State Fair. This year’s focus tree is the White Birch. The connection between birch and many bird species is an important one whether it’s the sap that attracts the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker shown here, the seeds that serve as a food source, or the bark used in nest building.
Stop by the Forestry Building and talk to one of the volunteers to find out why birches are an important part of Vermont’s forested landscape. If your timing is right you may even find one of us wearing a beak!
The fair runs from September 3 through September 12. See you there!
