March 16 (Saturday) - West Rutland Marsh Monitoring Walk

A monthly bird monitoring walk. To date 155 species, from Least Bittern to Northern Shrike, have been recorded at this Important Bird Area (IBA). Join us for the 3.7 mile loop around the marsh (dirt and paved roads) or go halfway. Meet at the marsh boardwalk on Marble Street at 8 AM. Contact birding@rutlandcountyaudubon.org.

March 19 (Tuesday) - When Wilderness Was Less Wild

RCAS member Lee Allen talks about wilderness in Vermont following the Eastern Wilderness Act in 1975, in particular the 18,000-acre Lye Brook Wilderness southeast of Manchester, the third largest wilderness area in the state. Grace Congregational Church Fellowship Hall, 7 PM.

April 20 (Saturday) - Vernal Pool Monitoring Trip.

What is a vernal pool and why is it important? Join RCAS and Alex Wells from the Vernal Pool Monitoring Project at the Vermont Center for Ecostudies to found out on this field trip in the Rutland area. Location to be determined. Call 802-747-4466 to find out more and where. 9 AM.

April 23 (Tuesday) - Vernal Pool Monitoring Project.

A follow up to our field trip on April 20 (not required to attend this program), Alex Wells from the Vermont Center for Ecostudies will talk about the Vernal Pool Monitoring Project. Grace Congregational Church Fellowship Hall, 6:30 PM.

April 29 (Monday) - Audubon Member Photo Show Reception

Join RCAS at the Maclure Library in Pittsford to check out our bird photo show and light refreshments. 6 PM to 8 PM.

May 4 (Saturday) - Vermont Green Up Day

Join RCAS and other community volunteers as we give back to West Rutland Marsh by participating in the annual Vermont Green-Up Day. Meet at the West Rutland Town Hall at 9 AM. Bags provided. Gloves and work shoes or boots recommended.

May 15 (Wednesday) - Citizen Science

Join us as Nathaniel Sharp, Citizen Science Outreach Naturalist from the Vermont Center for Ecostudies presents information on citizen science in Vermont and how you can participate. While you're there you can check out our ongoing bird photo exhibit. Maclure Library, Pittsford, 6:30 PM.

July 10 (Wednesday) - RCAS Annual Meeting and Potluck

Join us to celebrate another year of Rutland County Audubon. There will be a short business meeting and election of officers followed by a program to be announced. Bring a dish to share. Beverages and utensils provided. Proctor Library, 6 PM

July 13 (Saturday) - Live Bird Presentation

RCAS is sponsoring a live bird presentation (raptors and owls!) from the Southern Vermont Natural History Museum. Join us at the Pittsford Rec Area (223 Recreation Area Rd) at 11 AM, rain or shine. Free!
