September 19-October 10 - National Audubon Photography Awards Display

Stop by Rutland City Hall on Strongs Avenue to check out 12 award-winning photos from the National Audubon Annual Photography Contest. 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Free admission!

September 22 (Saturday) - West Rutland Marsh Monitoring Walk

A monthly bird monitoring walk. To date 155 species, from Least Bittern to Northern Shrike, have been recorded at this Important Bird Area (IBA). Join us for the 3.7 mile loop around the marsh (dirt and paved roads) or go halfway. Meet at the marsh boardwalk on Marble Street at 8 AM. Contact birding@rutlandcountyaudubon.org.

September 28 (Friday) - National Audubon Photography Exhibit Reception

Stop by Rutland City Hall on Strongs Ave between 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. for a reception featuring 12 photos from the National Audubon Photography Awards being shown from September 19 until October 10. At 7 p.m. RCAS Vice President Mike Blust will give a presentation. Free and open to all! Stop by to see some beautiful photos and learn more about Audubon.

October 27 (Saturday) - Rutland Halloween Parade

Look for the RCAS float at this year's Rutland Halloween Parade, our second annual appearance in this regional tradition. Hint: We'll be birds important to our environment, but particularly suitable to this occasion. Downtown Rutland, 6:30 p.m. .

December 29 (Saturday) - Christmas Bird Count and Potluck

A An annual tradition for RCAS and birders across the country. Join one of the eight field teams or, if you live within the count circle, count at home (contact us to find out if you live within the circle). The day ends with a countdown of the day's sightings and a potluck supper at the Proctor Library at 6 PM. Bring a dish to share (beverages and utensils provided). January 12 (Saturday) - Winter Regulars & Rarities in the Champlain Valley

Our annual trip to seek out winter visitors in the Champlain Valley, visiting points along the lake. Possible species include Rough-legged Hawk, Snow Bunting and North Shrike as well as winter ducks. Dress for the weather and bring lunch. Meet at 9 AM in the Otter Valley Union High School parking lot. Contact birding@rutlandcountyaudubon.org.
