February 13 (Wednesday) - How to Participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count

Be a citizen scientist! Learn how to take part in the upcoming Great Backyard Bird Count starting February 15 and running through February 18. Kathleen Guinness and Sandy Duling will run a program geared to beginners at the Poultney Library on Main Street from 3 PM to 5 PM. Fun and informative!

February 16 (Saturday) - West Rutland Marsh Monitoring Walk

A monthly bird monitoring walk. To date 155 species, from Least Bittern to Northern Shrike, have been recorded at this Important Bird Area (IBA). Join us for the 3.7 mile loop around the marsh (dirt and paved roads) or go halfway. Meet at the marsh boardwalk on Marble Street at 8 AM. Contact birding@rutlandcountyaudubon.org.

February 26 (Tuesday) - Two Audubon Birders to Texas

RCAS Board Member and past president Marv Elliott and his wife have visited many of the Texas State Parks. Join RCAS for a presentation on the variety of habitats and species that can be found in this vast and varied state. Grace Congregational Church, 7 PM.

RCAS member Lee Allen talks about wilderness in Vermont following the Eastern Wilderness Act in 1975, in particular the 18,000-acre Lye Brook Wilderness southeast of Manchester, the third largest wilderness area in the state. Grace Congregational Church, 7 PM.

A Join RCAS and other community volunteers as we give back to West Rutland Marsh by participating in the annual Vermont Green-Up Day. Meet at the West Rutland Town Hall at 9 AM. Bags provided. Gloves and work shoes or boots recommended.
